history in our hands
Memory, democracy & youth responsibility

Are you an engaged AFYN member interested in deepening your understanding of the Holocaust and exploring the connections between memory, democracy and youth responsibility?
The Anne Frank Youth Network is hosting our first ever Study Trip “History in our Hands: Memory, Democracy, and Youth Responsibility” this summer 2026 across Poland!
We'll bring together a cohort of 25 our most engaged members to deepen their understanding of the Holocaust and to explore the connections between historical memory and current societal challenges, with a focus on promoting democracy and safeguarding the rule of law.
From 24 to 31 July we'll embark on a seven-day international study trip, taking our team and par participants through Warsaw, Kraków, and Oświęcim (Auschwitz), in Poland, as they engage with topics relating to memory, democracy and youth responsibility.

our study trip program
Through study visits, workshops, reflection sessions, and discussions, participants will learn about Jewish life before the Holocaust, the mechanisms behind persecution, and the consequences of democratic collapse. Most notably, participants prepare to visit the Auschwitz State Museum, including both Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II (Birkenau), under the careful guidance and facilitation of the Anne Frank House's official partner in Poland, the Auschwitz Jewish Center.
The program also encourages participants to understand diverse perspectives on Holocaust remembrance and to later share what they learn with their communities back home. It seeks to “build bridges” between different remembrance cultures, past and present, and between young participants and their own communities. By experiencing these historic sites firsthand, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the past and be equipped to promote democracy, the rule of law, equality, and the protection of minority rights in their own communities.

Remembrance, Democracy, Youth responsibility, learning from and about the holocaust, Jewish life, democratic values, active citizenship, bridge building, fostering dialogue

This study trip is an initiative organized by the Anne Frank Youth Network team, in the Educational Department of the Anne Frank House. During our study trip, we will also partner with various local organizations in Poland, notably the POLIN Museum in Warsaw and the Auschwitz Jewish Center in Oświęcim.
All expenses of this Study Trip, including travel, meals and accommodation, are fully covered by the Anne Frank House.
